Aloha! I am Kai Mead. I am the mother of three awesome young children. My family loves being active, exploring and playing outdoors and in the ocean- paddling, surfing, diving, hiking, swimming. Our favorite spots are Sandys and Makapuu! I am originally from Big Island, I grew up in Northern California, and have now called Oahu home for 9 years. I graduated from UH Manoa with my Elementary Education degree and I love being a teacher. My teaching philosophy is based on the concept that students naturally inquire about the world around them. My role as a teacher is to facilitate their inquiries and guide them through the process of discovery. I value opportunities for students to collaborate, demonstrate leadership roles, and gain essential understandings in the classroom and in the world. As a teacher, I strive to be ethical in all matters and maintain strict confidentiality. I strive to maintain a positive attitude, model perseverance, and demonstrate understanding and care for others. I want to be mindful of the developmental stages of my students and take appropriate action to guide them in their learning. I believe learning occurs through the integration of all content areas and my teaching emphasizes the importance of place, culture, and background. I believe every student has something amazing to offer to others in our classroom, and I as the teacher must guide each individual student in finding what they can contribute to our growing learning community.
